Our Philosophy

We take the time at every appointment to listen because we care for you and your baby. We want your child’s birth to be a positive and empowering experience for you. Dr. Lai Fon-Min believes women should be empowered to make decisions about the delivery of their babies, and he provides women with the information they need to make these important choices. He does not push a pre-set agenda of his own — he truly listens to what you want and need.

His extensive background with difficult deliveries means that he is prepared for every eventuality under his experienced care. Dr. Lai is well known for his meticulous research and evidence-based approach. He has published numerous articles and uses his expertise to help you make informed choices during your pregnancy.

He is also trained in holistic methods to naturally position your baby for a shorter, easier delivery. Since 2006, he has been delivering babies through water birth and supporting homebirths. He is frequently sought out to deliver breech babies safely. No matter what, your health and safety – and that of your baby – is at the forefront of his mind.

Fertility

We understand that difficulty with conceiving can be frustrating and upsetting, especially without assistance. We offer pre-conception fertility investigations and pre-conception screening to help you conceive.

We perform pelvic scans.
We help you understand timing according to fertility cycles.
We conduct endometrial thickness scans and follicle scans.
We can also perform mock embryo transfer and tubal patency tests.

Fetal Health & Wellbeing

For the overall well-being of both mother and baby, it is the doctor’s responsibility to ensure a positive outcome. As such, it is part of Dr. Lai’s practice to have at least the following scans during your antenatal appointments with him.

We can also guide you through the many decisions you will have to make, such as choosing supplements, exercising and eating well to ensure a healthy pregnancy. We will help you prepare for your baby and help you understand the changes in your body so you can be comfortable and enjoy your pregnancy.

The First Trimester Scan

Also called Pregnancy Viability and Dating Scan, this is done at 6–11 weeks to confirm the pregnancy, exclude ectopic pregnancy, and to estimate the delivery date.

Nuchal Translucency Scan

Usually done at 11 – 13 weeks, this is a non-invasive test to assess the risk of having a baby with chromosomal abnormality, risk of fetal growth restriction, mother’s risk of pre-eclampsia, and risk of preterm delivery.

Fetal Anomaly Screening Scan

This is usually done at 18 – 22 weeks to exclude a structural fetal abnormality and to confirm the position of the placenta.

Growth Scans

Done in the third trimester to assess the growth and the health of the baby.

Full Term Scan

Done when the mother has reached 40 weeks of her pregnancy to assess the growth and the health of the baby.

All of these scans are a wonderful opportunity for you to bond with your baby. We also have the option to do 3D HDLive© scans if you wish to have them.

Comprehensive Testing

In certain cases, more invasive tests such as Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS), done at 10-13 weeks, or amniocentesis, done at 16 weeks, may be necessary to exclude chromosomal and genetic disorders. You will be guided with detailed information by Dr. Lai if the need for such tests arises.
